Our Story

Swanky Sweets Story

Ever since I was a little girl, I have always had a love of baking and cooking. I have fond memories of playing “bakery and restaurant” as a little girl. The passion for being in the kitchen was in my blood as I grew up around a cooking family. My most favorite memories include watching and helping my grandmother make homemade strawberry jam, helping my mom prepare food for our annual 4th of July parties, and making marzipan fruits and vegetables every Christmas Eve with my dad. My childhood is the heart of my baking and I look forward to making memories with my children through the years.

Although I loved spreading happiness to others through my cooking and baking, I wasn’t quite ready to leave the comfort of the corporate world to follow my dream of opening Swanky Sweets. However, in January 2016, that all changed. My husband, Michael, passed away unexpectedly. He was always supportive of my passion and encouraged me to pursue it. With two young children to raise and support, I knew working the long hours I did was no longer an option when all they had was me. I had to do what was best for me and my children.

“And still I rise.”- Maya Angelou

And that is exactly what I did. I wanted to show my children that no matter how big or small your dream is, no matter what circumstances life throws at you, you don’t give up. You persevere. You find your inner strength, surround yourself with cheerers, work hard, and then…you can do anything. After many months of highs and lows, on December 1, 2016, Swanky Sweets came to life. It was a bittersweet day filled with many emotions, but a day of pride and love. I was surrounded by my mom and children, close friends, and my Swanky Sweets girls. These girls are not only my best friends and my biggest supporters, but are my family. They believed in me enough to leave their jobs and come along on this crazy journey of mine. Millie is the mom of the group who keeps us in line. Elizabeth is our cake/cheesecake artist and does amazing fondant work.

“Dragonflies are the keepers of dreams, the energy within that sees all of our true potential and ability. Dragonflies inspire spiritually and creatively, they help us on the path of discovery and enlightenment. They remind us that anything is possible.”

Charity is the bread whisperer whose creations always make you want more. And Mira, Charity’s daughter, is our cheery assistant whose smile will brighten anyone’s day. Their friendship and selflessness is treasured and I couldn’t imagine Swanky Sweets without my family.

Swanky Sweets came to life because of a heartbreaking event, but it has allowed me to heal by serving others. My hope is that those who walk into Swanky Sweets will feel the warmth, love, and joy that is reminiscent to my childhood feelings of being in the kitchen. I started this journey for my family; the Swanky Sweets crew became my family; and I hope you feel like family when you walk in our doors.

Welcome to Swanky Sweets!
